Film is Not Dead, San Francisco | FIND SF | June 2013
After admiring Jonathan Canlas' work for years, I was thrilled to find out he was offering a Film Is Not Dead workshop in San Francisco this June. Three full days of shooting film, getting comfortable with shooting film again and being able to ask Jonathan questions all along the way was exactly what I needed. And then on top of that, the workshop was full of amazingly talented and inspiring women. It was an awesome experience. Jonathan did a masterful job at sharing tons of insightful information about both business and his art, and he's just a great guy to be around: fearless, huge-hearted and inspiring.
Above are some favorites from the 3 days. It's hard to explain how excited I was to get the email that my scans were ready. For that feeling alone, film wins! In all actuality, I don't mean to pit film & digital against one another. There are some wonderful benefits to each, and I think what I'm hoping to explore is a way to blend them together in my work to maximize the best of both. So far since the workshop in June, I've shot film at each of my weddings and engagement sessions, and I even shot only film on our family vacation. The results have been often wonderful and sometimes sucky. But I'm pressing on. And it makes me happy.
A huge thanks to Jon for an amazing experience, along with the lovely models for the workshop and all the wonderful women I met!! Scans are by the fabulous FIND Lab and film a mix of Kodak Portra 800, 400, Ektar and Fuji 400h on Contax 645.
